Success for local Scottish racer Connor Duncan as he lifted the trophy and took the prestigious GP plate at Kartmasters hosted by PFI International in Grantham on August 2, 2020. Connor didn’t have it all his own way and was left with work to do after a torrid timed qualifying.

During timed qualifying Connor encountered a mechanical issue with the kart and retired to the pits with only three laps completed. This left him setting off from the two heats 26th out of 35. Finishing 21st and 15th in the heats this left Connor starting the pre-final in position 17. Connor fought his way through to take the win and put himself in the prime seat for the final. The final turned into a two horse race with Conor closely chased by Timo Jungling. Connor held off Timo’s attacks with a great display of driving by both drivers to take victory by 0.020seconds. Fellow Scottish driver Zak Drummond took the final spot on the podium in third.

With an interest in motorsport from a young age, Connor started off on a motorcross bike but soon found his passion lied in kart racing. After making the switch to four wheels there was no going back, taking part in his first race age 7 in a Honda Cadet at Crail (East of Scotland Kart Club). He has been hooked ever since!

“In the final lap, I really had to defend. I knew Timo was as hungry as I was for the GP plate.

As we crossed the line, I got the win by 2 thousandths of a second, it was seriously close! Thanks to all for the words of support, congratulations and to everyone who was watching from home. It was really appreciated! I Couldn’t have done it without my mechanic David Bellchambers, the support from my team SFR Motorsport and Xenon Kart. Also got to thank Dad for driving me everywhere and for constantly challenging me to do my best” said Connor Duncan.
