Whilst the paddock socially distanced, the on track action was far from it. 78 drivers split over two days competed in the opening round of the delayed Boyndie Drome Open Challenge hosted by Grampian Kart Club.

The circuit reopened in June for member practice but this was the first competition held at the circuit, and Scotland since the country went into lockdown. After the extended break, drivers from the age of six years old could finally see how they faired against their rivals. It was an action packed day of wheel-to-wheel racing with kart racers happy to see a return to competition despite the social distancing measures enforced on the paddock. The only hiccup of the weekend being a track evasion of two stray dogs!

It was far from a normal weekend racing with numbers split over two days and both officials & competitors adhering to social distancing measures. The meeting was concluded with a socially distant prize giving outside the clubhouse.

There were two feature trophies up for grabs, the Dickie Bent Cup for the junior driver of the day and the Andrew Borton Memorial Quaich. Aiden MacDonald of Woodhead was the marshals choice for driver of the day on Saturday and Ryan Cannon of Leven took home the Quaich for a second time as top finishing KZUK driver on Sunday.

The next race meeting on the Scottish calendar is this coming weekend July 18-19 at Larkhall with Golspie the following weekend. Find the latest dates in the events calendar.
